Jetboil Personal cookers

It started with a simple but powerful idea. Frustrated with heavy vacuum bottles and clunky stoves, Jetboil founders Dwight Aspinwall and Perry Dowst set out to make outdoor cooking easier.

They discovered that the secret to a fast and friendly design lies in increasing heat transfer efficiency. Alternating between lab and mountains, a series of designs were subjected to intense experimental and field testing. The result is a product as reliable as it is remarkable; as usable as it is unique.

Jetboil cooking systems are manufactured in the shadow of New Hampshire’s White Mountains, home of the most extreme weather in the world. We’re proud of our work and dedicated to simplifying and personalizing mobile cooking.

The Jetboil FAQ

Can I carry my Jetboil on a commercial airplane?

Yes, although you’ll have to leave your fuel at home. While the FAA allows you to travel with your camping stove (“Camp stoves can travel as carry-on or checked luggage only if empty of all fuel and cleaned such that vapors and residue are absent. Simply emptying the fuel container is insufficient as flammable vapors remain. TSA recommends you ship these ahead of time as they are frequently confiscated due to fuel vapors”), Federal law prohibits airlines from taking compressed gas cylinders on board (more info). You may also purchase your fuel on the other end. The full link to the FAA’s regulations may be found here.

What causes the rust ring at the bottom of my PCS cup, and what can I do about it?

Occasionally, a rust ring will form inside the PCS cup if the Jetpower canister is stored while damp. Though unsightly, this rust ring will not adversely affect you or your PCS’s performance. To remove the rust, gently clean the cup with a non-abrasive scrubby. To prevent the rust from re-appearing, store your Jetpower canister upside down in the cup (with the dust cap on, of course). This keeps the canister ring off the damp bottom of the cup, eliminating the cause of the problem.

Why are coffee grinds escaping trapped basket after I use my Jetboil coffee press?

It is customary for users of coffee press products to use a coarser coffee grind to minimize the amount of grinds in the final brew. Matching the correct grind size to the brewing method will maximize the results of the quality of your coffee.

Can I use Jetboil with other fuel canisters?

Jetboil is compatible with valves made to the EN417 specification, a standard adopted by manufacturers throughout the world. Please note that the product has not been tested with every different type of fuel canister, and we cannot claim safe operation with any canister other than our Jetpower brand of fuel.

Why is Jetpower better than some other fuels?

Jetpower fuel contains a blend of propane and iso-butane. Propane provides higher vapor pressure to the fuel which means better performance in cold weather. Iso-butane provides more constant pressure as the fuel level gets low. The Jetpower fuel canister is also designed to stow conveniently within the cooking cup.

What does the FluxRing™ do?

This patent-pending device captures the heat of the burner and directs it into the food, rather than into the air as waste. The FluxRing™ heat exchanger makes it possible to heat a conveniently shaped vessel with extremely high efficiency.

What's the big deal about fuel efficiency?

Fuel efficiency translates to weight, space, and money savings. Since Jetboil is up to twice as efficient as conventional stoves, you can take half as much fuel on your trip, thus saving weight. In fact, our Jetpower fuel canister, with 100 grams of fuel, boils as much water with Jetboil as competing stoves do with their big 227 gram canisters. The other big benefit is space savings, since Jetpower canisters nest conveniently inside the cooking cup.

Does Jetboil work in cold weather?

All canister stoves suffer a performance drop in cold weather. The colder the fuel, the lower the vapor pressure, and the lower the burner output. The result can be noticeably longer boil times and difficulty lighting the burner with the built-in piezoelectric ignitor. Jetpower’s lower firing rate reduces canister cooling and increases performance. Jetpower fuel, with propane, helps mitigate cold weather problems. We suggest that you keep the canister in a warm pocket between uses and remove it immediately prior to heating your food. Carry an extra canister and keep it warm to swap out with a cold one when necessary, and always carry matches or a lighter as backup.

Why is aluminum the best material for cookware?

Aluminum's heat conductivity is far superior to both titanium and stainless steel. This conductivity is critical to Jetboil's speed and fuel efficiency. Stainless steel, while durable, is heavy. Titanium is expensive, inefficient, and scorches food easily because it is a poor distributor of heat.

What is hard-anodized aluminum?

Anodizing is a process by which a layer of extremely hard aluminum oxide is applied to the surface of aluminum. This layer protects food from bare aluminum and helps protect the surface from wear. That said, even anodized surfaces eventually wear, and we recommend that you use non-metallic utensils and low-abrasion scrubbies with your Jetboil. When packing a Jetpower canister inside the cooking cup, we recommend that you dry the cup well and separate the two with a layer of cloth to prevent scratches. Keeping the fuel cap on the canister also helps reduce wear by eliminating any movement of the canister or burner base within the cooking cup.

My Jetboil isn’t lighting well. What can I do?

The intensity of the piezoelectric spark is highly dependent on its position over the burner. Adjusting the position of the piezo wire to maximize the intensity of the spark usually corrects the problem; the optimal distance between the wire and the burner head is approximately one-quarter inch. If, after attempting an adjustment, you still have problems lighting, contact Jetboil Customer Service. In addition, we recommend that you always carry matches or a lighter in case of piezo failure.

How much water does one canister of fuel boil?

A 100 gram canister of Jetpower fuel boils up to 12 liters of water. For trip planning, count on 10 liters per canister for some extra margin. If you're melting snow, assume 6 liters per canister. It never hurts to have an extra canister of fuel along, and it might make a big difference in comfort and safety.

Why are Jetpower fuel canisters smaller than other manufacturers canisters?

Conventional stoves are inefficient consumers of fuel. They fire at high rates and produce lots of waste heat. Jetboil is a fuel miser, using less than half the fuel to boil the same volume of water. Since Jetboil uses less fuel we made the canister smaller to save you weight and space.

Can I ship Jetpower fuel?

With proper labelling on the outside of the carton, Jetpower fuel can be shipped ground via UPS or FedEx without incurring hazardous material fees. For more information contact Jetboil Customer Service.

What can I cook in my Jetboil?

Jetboil is designed to heat liquids and liquid foods. Examples include water, pasta, soups, tea, or rice. When heating viscous foods such as baked beans or stew, we recommend that you turn the heat down very low and stir frequently to avoid burning the contents.
